Our Story

In November 2019, we had the opportunity to buy our favorite Mexican restaurant, Casa Playa, and it has been one of the greatest joys of our lives.

We are fortunate to live within walking distance of both Casa Playa and the beach. We love the energy and charm of Riviera Village and everything it has to offer—from the Farmers Market to the Halloween festivities and the Holiday Stroll. We also cherish the many small businesses that make this community so special. You’ll often see Alethea shopping, getting her hair done, or dining around town. And yes, sometimes we even eat somewhere other than Casa Playa!

The community of shopkeepers is the tapestry that makes Riviera Village unique, and we are proud and honored to be a part of it.

Before becoming restaurant owners, we both worked in the film industry. You can still see the poster for Alethea’s second feature film, Good Side of Bad, hanging in the restaurant. She continues to create films that help build bridges between people and remind us all to lead with our hearts. Shawn has dedicated himself to raising his son, Sebastian, while working alongside our head cook—who has been with Casa Playa for more than 13 years—to serve what we believe is the best Mexican food in town.

We love our incredible staff and could not be more grateful for each and every one of them. At Casa Playa it truly is a family. It’s not unusual to see our team’s children doing homework in the restaurant or lending a helping hand. We have husband-and-wife teams and counter staff who have become like family to us. And we even consider our regulars part of the Casa Playa family. We really do have the best customers!
